The inaugural Northeast China Book Fair opened on May 17 in Changchun, capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province, running until May 19.

This cultural event aims to showcase industry achievements, provide a platform for industry exchanges, and offer readers a cultural feast. Over 600 publishing and distribution units are participating, displaying more than 400,000 titles and featuring over 100 cultural activities.

In 2023, Jilin saw 57 books, two audiovisual works, five periodicals, and two columns win national awards and key project selections, with five books recognized as excellent popular science works. National and provincial governments invested a total of 34.07 million yuan ($4.72 million) to support 106 publishing projects, enhancing the variety, structure, and layout of publications. The national minority language publishing special fund invested 13.87 million yuan, supporting 20 minority language publishing projects, leading to the publication of 34,034 books.

The "2024-2027 Jilin Book Publishing Plan" is currently being developed, with plans to launch 20 more publishing projects this year, providing more excellent cultural products and interactive services for the public.

The book fair is a cultural event held in Jilin province, especially in Changchun. The main venue offers triple discount policies and extended hours until 8:30 PM on May 17-18. Twelve branch venues across the province will host over a hundred exciting events, including book night markets and cultural activities, creating a reader-friendly festival centered in Changchun and extending throughout the province.
