Shanxi's rural skilled talents compete in vocational skills contest

A total of 22 skilled workers from North China's Shanxi province competed in the 2nd National Rural Vitalization Vocational Skills Competition in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, on May 8.

With a total of 701 skilled professionals from 32 delegations in attendance, the competition focused on practical rural skills. It included 11 categories, such as masonry, automotive maintenance, agricultural machinery repair, styling hair, and elderly care.

On May 9, rural craftsmen and master artisans showcased their skills at the Guiyang International Conference and Exhibition Center. Among them, two rural talents from Shanxi demonstrated their superb embroidery skills, attracting onlookers who stopped to watch and admire their work.

"Our embroidery and dyeing techniques have a long history, achieving a perfect blend of tradition and innovation. Our works are full of visual effects, and are collected by many museums," said Fan Suping, a representative inheritor of Shanxi embroidery.

In recent years, the province has successfully trained 333 rural craftsmen, including 10 national-level master artisans and 73 provincial-level master artisans. This effort has become a significant force in driving employment and increasing income for impoverished people that live in rural areas.

At the event's exhibition area, an official from Shanxi Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs stated that Shanxi will actively explore a path that will nurture rural craftsmen. The province has also announced plans to build up brands in order to increase the income of its rural population.
