Recently, a preservation scientific research base for the North China leopard (Panthera pardus japonensis) was unveiled by the Shanxi Provincial Taihang Mountain State Forest Administration.

The base is affiliated to the Feline Research Center of National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and its establishment charts a new chapter for the scientific research of North China leopards in North China's Shanxi province.

The North China leopard, a unique subspecies of large felines in China, serves as an indicator species for the health of the natural environment. The Tieqiao Mountain Provincial Nature Reserve, under the jurisdiction of the Shanxi Provincial Taihang Mountain State Forest Administration, is located at the junction of the Taihang and Taiyue mountains. With abundant biodiversity, this reserve stands as a crucial habitat for the North China leopard population.

In recent years, this reserve has collaborated with research institutions to conduct scientific monitoring. They have installed 100 infrared cameras in key monitoring areas for field surveillance, making every effort to protect the North China leopards. It has now become the natural reserve with the densest and largest population of North China leopards in Shanxi.

After the unveiling ceremony, the Feline Research Center and the Shanxi Provincial Taihang Mountain State Forest Administration signed a cooperation agreement regarding matters related to scientific research on the protection of the North China leopards.
