Shanxi achieves stable economic growth in Q1

In the first quarter of this year, North China's Shanxi province saw a slight growth in its gross domestic product (GDP), marking an overall trend of stable economic recovery.

This is according to the statistics that were jointly released by the Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics and the Survey Office of National Bureau Statistical in Shanxi.

The GDP of the province reached 539.96 billion yuan ($74.74 billion) in the first quarter, representing a 1.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the added value of the province's primary industry was 16.99 billion yuan, up 5.4 percent; the added value of the secondary industry was 250 billion yuan, a decrease of 0.3 percent; and the added value of the tertiary industry was 272.96 billion yuan, showing a growth of 2.1 percent.

In the first quarter, the province achieved 17.79 billion yuan in the added value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery sectors. This marked a 5.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Among the province's industries above a designated size, the added value in the equipment manufacturing industry grew 4.9 percent. Within this sector, the telecommunications equipment manufacturing sector expanded 28.7 percent. High-tech manufacturing also saw significant growth, increasing 17.1 percent, with the electronic and communications equipment manufacturing sector growing 27.3 percent.

Shanxi's internet sector was showing strong momentum. In the first quarter, the added value of information transmission, software, and information technology services increased 8.9 percent. In January and February, among the province's service industries above a designated size, the operating revenue of the internet and related services sector grew 11.8 percent.

The tourism market in Shanxi continued to boom. In the first quarter, the number of visits to key scenic spots in the province reached 19.09 million, representing an increase of 20.7 percent. Ticket revenue amounted to 490 million yuan, up 15.8 percent, while operational revenue of these scenic spots reached 730 million yuan, marking a 15.5 percent increase.

Furthermore, the per capita disposable income of residents in the province reached 8,067 yuan, showing a growth of 6.2 percent. Specifically, the per capita disposable income of urban residents in the province stood at 10,734 yuan, marking a 5.1 percent increase; and the per capita disposable income of rural residents reached 4,750 yuan, with a growth rate of 8.3 percent.
