Shanxi province's athlete delegation achieved remarkable results at the 14th National Winter Games, which concluded on Feb 27 in Hulunbuir, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

It secured 12 gold, nine silver, and five bronze medals during the games. Additionally, it attained seven fourth-place, nine fifth-place, 12 sixth-place, four seventh-place, and seven eighth-place finishes, ranking ninth out of the 35 participating delegations.

A total of 205 athletes represented Shanxi, competing in 110 events in four major categories of skiing, ice skating, curling, and ice hockey.

The 14th National Winter Games showcased the vigorous development of winter sports in Shanxi, serving as a testament to the province's growth in the field.

In 2019, Shanxi established the Shanxi Ice and Snow Sports Center, which swiftly promoted and popularized winter sports.

The province has formed professional teams for snowboarding, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing (including biathlon), and curling (including ice stock sports), utilizing diverse methods such as cross-disciplinary talent selection, collaboration with provinces excelling in winter sports, and joint team-building efforts with schools and clubs.

Currently, Shanxi is continuing to train and accumulate a significant number of professional coaches and athletes in winter sports, demonstrating its dedication to furthering the development of winter sports.
