The first batch of aluminum coils bound for Mexico were recently packed and dispatched from the Sino-Singapore (Chongqing) Multimodal Transport Demonstration Base, which will arrive at Manzanillo Port in about 50 days.

The aluminum coils, weighing a total of 620 metric tons and produced by Southwest Aluminium (Group) Co, were packed into 31 TEUs, boasting a total value of 13 million yuan ($1.8 million).

This accomplishment not only underscores the successful completion of a business transaction, but also highlights the pivotal role played by the base in facilitating global trade through its strategic location and comprehensive multimodal transportation services.

As a flagship project under the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, the demonstration base has been actively involved in warehousing, freight forwarding, and trade services since it began operation in 2022. With a focus on enhancing global multimodal transportation capabilities, the base has developed a complete supply service chain that caters to diverse customer needs.

"Our warehouse utilization rate has reached 100 percent following the Spring Festival holiday, with a container yard utilization rate that exceeds 60 percent. We have achieved a full work resumption rate, underscoring our commitment to ensuring a safe and orderly resumption of operations," said Chen Junfeng, a manager of Sino Singapore (Chongqing) Multimodal Logistics Development Co.

Recognizing the paramount importance of safety in logistics operations, the base has conducted thorough visits to park clients, identified potential safety hazards, and maintained operational efficiency. This dedication to safety has garnered praise from industry representatives, with a representative from Chongqing Huanlu Logistics Co remarking, "The emphasis placed by the base on safety issues and business conditions gives us confidence for the new year."

In January alone, the base recorded impressive operational figures, with container throughout reaching approximately 2,600 TEUs and a circulation value of around 515.5 million yuan. This marked a 62.5 percent increase in container throughput and a nearly fivefold increase in circulation value compared to the previous year. Additionally, its trade volume in bulk commodities surpassed 2,500 tons, with contract amounts exceeding 36 million yuan, while its frozen products exceeded 700 tons, with contract amounts exceeding $5 million.

"In 2024, we will continue to leverage the base's geographical advantages, as well as Chongqing's strategic positioning to vigorously develop green logistics businesses," said Chen Junfeng. The base remains steadfast in advancing its core businesses in warehousing, freight forwarding, and trade, while also promoting collaborative projects between China and Singapore in transportation and logistics. These efforts aim to facilitate economic and trade exchanges between Chongqing and countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, thereby contributing to Chongqing's development as an inland open highland.
