Twenty-two locations in North China's Shanxi province were recently included in the first batch of national important habitats for terrestrial wildlife.

The first batch of national important habitats for terrestrial wildlife is divided into six categories, including areas for the survival and reproduction of rare and endangered species and areas for the distribution of wildlife populations.

The list involves 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, covering the habitats, breeding grounds, and migratory sites of 565 species of nationally protected wildlife at the first and second levels. It includes 127 species of mammals, 339 species of birds, 62 species of amphibians and reptiles, and 37 species of insects.

Shanxi has incorporated a large number of wildlife habitats into its conservation efforts by establishing a natural protected area system based on national parks, supplemented by various types of nature reserves.

The 22 selected habitats are located in the cities of Jinzhong, Jincheng, Yuncheng, Linfen, Lyuliang, Changzhi, Xinzhou, and Datong, involving animals such as leopards, macaques, hazel grouse, and migratory birds.
