The Shanxi Development and Reform Commission and the Shanxi Provincial Energy Administration recently issued a plan to help it realize its carbon peak goals in the unconventional natural gas industry in Shanxi province.
The plan proposes that by 2025, Shanxi's unconventional natural gas production should strive to reach 20 billion cubic meters, and by 2030, urban and rural gas coverage should have been extended throughout the entire province.
To achieve these goals, Shanxi will accelerate the exploration of unconventional natural gas resources, focusing on major exploration projects in urban blocks such as Yushen-Wuxiang area, Hengling town in Heshun county, and Sanjiaobei, to increase storage reserve areas.
Efforts will be also made to promote the development of unconventional natural gas resources, increase production in mature coalbed methane areas, achieve production in untapped but proven areas, and encourage companies to carry out trial mining and production in newly allocated blocks.
Based on the enhanced capacity of unconventional natural gas production, Shanxi will improve its provincial trunk pipeline network.
Mainline pipelines for external transmission will also be established, including those targeting the Xiong'an New Area, Hebei province, Henan province, and other surrounding gas markets, as well as interconnections and mutual support channels with Shaanxi province.
Shanxi will also promote the full coverage of the provincial branch pipeline network in key towns, economic development zones, key industrial users, key tourist areas, and unconventional natural gas fields.
