North China's Shanxi province recently achieved its goal of installing a targeted number of 5G base stations for the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25) ahead of schedule.

By the end of November, Shanxi has completed the construction of over 93,000 5G base stations for an average distribution rate of 26.7 per 10,000 people, ranking inside the top 10 in China.

All towns, townships and urban districts in the province now have access to the 5G network.

Meanwhile, the 5G network offers even higher speed access at all 3A-rated and higher level scenic spots, airports, high-speed railway stations, and transportation hubs in the province.

Over 80 percent of the three major tourist highways currently under construction – Great Wall No 1, Yellow River No 1 and Taihang No 1 – have now been covered with the 5G network.

The network has also contributed to the emergence of influential demonstration cases in the digitalization of industries, smart lifestyle, and digital governance.

So far, more than 130 industrial enterprises in the province have implemented 5G applications, with five selected to join the 5G Factory List by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

One was selected as a typical case of 5G technology being applied to a smart coal mine by the National Energy Administration.

Another project was nominated as a 5G-based smart education pilot by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Ministry of Education.

In addition, 28 projects were recognized as pilot projects for 5G-based medical and health applications by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Health Commission.
