An immersive journey to Huaqing Palace in Xi'an

Immersive tourism has become a prominent trend in China's cultural and tourism industry, captivating the interest of avid travelers nationwide.

Xi'an, located in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, has a history of more than 3,100 years and served as the capital for 13 Chinese dynasties. It stands as a treasure trove of immersive tourist attractions in China.

Huaqing Palace in Xi'an is one of these attractions, which boasts a royal architectural legacy that spans 3000 years and a hot spring tradition dating back 6000 years. It is recognized as one of the first batches of National AAAAA Tourist Attractions in China and as a main scenic spot within the Qinling Zhongnanshan Geopark by UNESCO.

Watch The Song of Everlasting Sorrow

The large-scale live-action historical dance drama, The Song of Everlasting Sorrow, created by the TCG Shaanxi, staged its winter version show for 2023 on Dec 1 within Huaqing Palace. Originally an epic poem by Bai Juyi, this performance narrates the romantic saga between Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and his concubine Yang Yuhuan. Through advanced technology in lighting and 3-D imagery, the audience is treated to an immersive show, bringing history to life.

Witness the Xi'an Incident

Presented by the TCG Shaanxi, Xi'an Incident employs advanced lighting, sound and multimedia mapping technologies to create an immersive viewing experience. Set against the backdrop of Huaqing Palace on December 12, 1936, the performance recounts the historical moment when Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng persuaded Chiang Kai-shek to unite with the Communist Party against Japanese invaders.

Enjoy Hot Springs

The soul of Huaqing Palace lies in its hot springs. Over the centuries, this natural thermal oasis has attracted emperors and their concubines from various dynasties in ancient China, turning Huaqing Palace into a winter resort.
