Pudong in East China's Shanghai experienced a consumption boom during this year's combined Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday from Sept 29 to Oct 6, according to official data.
During the eight-day holiday, coinciding with the Shanghai Tourism Festival and Autumn Shopping Tourism Season, Pudong received a total of 7.17 million visitors. The total number of visitors and ticket revenue in the scenic areas increased by 34.83 percent and 73.1 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
Pudong also launched seven routes and activities, including performances, cultural and artistic events, and sports and fitness events to attract visitors. The consumer market also saw a boom, with retail sales in Pudong's commercial sector reaching 1.51 billion yuan ($207 million), an increase of 5.77 percent compared to last year.
