Zhuhai sees record high passenger flow during holiday

Zhuhai's nine urban rail stations saw a passenger flow of more than 1.08 million from Sept 27 to Oct 6, which included the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays from Sept 29 to Oct 6, a record high for the city's railway transportation.

Zhuhai Railway Station alone recorded 822,000 arrivals and departures during the period, upping the station's record for the National Day holiday. The total number of passengers arriving and departing at Mingzhu Station exceeded 140,000, while that at Zhuhai Chimelong Station and Hengqin Station also set new records.

From Sept 29 to Oct 6, Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport transported 305,000 passengers and serviced 2,158 flights. The daily average flight volume and passenger flow increased by 87 percent and 112.5 percent, respectively, compared with that during the National Day holiday in 2022, while the growth rate was 4.7 percent and 0.4 percent when compared to the National Day holiday in 2019.

The inbound and outbound passenger flow through Hengqin Checkpoint was nearly 500,000 from Sept 29 to Oct 6, with a daily average of almost 62,500 people. On Oct 5, the checkpoint witnessed its highest passenger flow ever recorded at 65,500.

According to the person in charge of Hengqin Frontier Inspection Station, the passenger flow at Hengqin Checkpoint was about 50 percent higher than the average daily passenger flow on weekdays.

The various cultural and tourism activities in both Hengqin and Macao helped attract a large number of tourists. On Sept 29, some 10,000 tourists visited the Hengqin Flower Corridor, and the number of visitors to the Tianmu River Rowing Park increased by 50 percent in the first three days of the holidays due to light shows and drone performances.

The Mid-Autumn Festival concert at Ruins of St. Paul, a fireworks display competition, and the Art Macao: International Art Exhibition also took place during the holidays, helping attract 158,600 tourists to Macao on Sept 30, the highest single-day number since the beginning of this year.
