7. Drying books
There is another special custom on Qixi Festival - sun-drying books. This is because after the continuous rain and dampness of summer, the early autumn season brings clear skies and dry weather. The sunlight is abundant yet not too intense. On this day, sun-drying books serves the dual purpose of preventing mould by drying them out and also eliminating bookworms that might be hiding within the pages.
