On August 25, Tianjin University’s campus sprang into life as thousands of new students arrived on campus and moved into the many halls of residence across its two campuses.

At a time when the pandemic is raging, the university has rolled out series of pandemic-prevention regulations for all newcomers.

Freshmen are required to monitor their body temperature and conduct self-health observations for 14 days before registration, and are also required to wear masks when taking public transport to the school. A nucleic acid test report, conducted within 48 hours, is also mandatory for all students.

The university has organized more than 1,000 voluntary students to help freshmen move in, as no parents are allowed to enter the campus due to pandemic control concerns. There are also some ferry vehicles that are being dispatched to help carry students’ luggage. “The moment I set foot on campus and was surrounded by so many helping hands, I felt I had arrived home, and was overwhelmed with love and warmth,” said He Xinyue, who was accepted into the School of Architecture.

The university’s financial aid centers are also in full swing, running 24-hours a day during the move-in period. Here, students can apply for deferred payment of tuition and accommodation, freshmen grants, flood disaster subsidies, nucleic acid test subsidies, and travelling expense subsidies, as well as consult about National Student Loans and part-time jobs. For each and every student under financial distress, the university cooperates with the JD e-commerce platform and provides them with an electronic shopping card voucher worth 200RMB($30.86). Students can use the voucher to purchase over 400 commodities, such as stationery, books, washing products, and toiletries, on JD, at prices far below market prices.

The move-in period will last two days, from August 25 to 26, and is expecting to see 4,742 students sign up to study at the university.
