Zhuhai fulfills major economic goals in 2022

Zhuhai went through a 2.3-percent GDP growth last year, hitting 404.54 billion yuan ($58.82 billion), according to Zhuhai's Statistical Communiqué on 2022 National Economic and Social Development, which was released on April 18 by the Statistics Bureau and the local survey team of the National Bureau of Statistics.

Zhuhai's per capital GDP stood at 163,700 yuan ($23,801) in 2022, increasing by 1.8 percent. Xiangzhou, Jinwan, and Doumen ranked among the top three districts citywide in GDP, with Xiangzhou's GDP increased by 1.6 percent, reaching 268.23 billion yuan ($39 billion).

The city's added value of primary and secondary industries each went up by 7.2 and 7.1 percent to 6.05 billion yuan ($877.7 million) and 180.8 billion yuan ($26.2 billion), while the added value of tertiary industry decreased by 1.4 percent to 217.69 billion yuan ($31.6 billion).

The city's general public budget revenue grew by 1.7 percent, coming in at 43.74 billion yuan ($6.36 billion), while its general public budget expenditure decreased by 4.2 percent to 75.41 billion yuan ($10.96 billion). Among its general public budget, 22.88 billion yuan ($332.66 million) was allocated to culture, tourism, sports, and media, climbing by 20.7 percent. 

Agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery industries in Zhuhai in 2022 achieved a 6.5 percent growth in total output value, which was recorded at 12.14 billion yuan ($1.77 billion). 

The added value of industries above designated size in Zhuhai rose by 6.9 percent, and that of private enterprises above designated size went up by 10.2 percent. 

The added value of Zhuhai's seven pillar industries climbed by 9.6 percent last year. Its biomedicine industry witnessed the highest growth rate of 23.8 percent. The growth rate of hi-tech manufacturing in the city was 9.5 percent, accounting for 31.5 percent of Zhuhai's total. 

The total industrial output value of enterprises above designated size in Zhuhai soared to 585.66 billion yuan ($85.15 billion) with a year-on-year increase of 7.3 percent. Sixty categories of the 145 products that are produced by Zhuhai-based enterprises achieved more yield when compared to figures from 2021, including medical equipment and devices, televisions, optical cable, and industrial robots.

In terms of fixed asset investment, industrial investment in Zhuhai last year expanded by 56.4 percent, accounting for 30.1 percent of the city's total fixed-asset investment.

Zhuhai's total import and export volume went down by 8 percent to 305.35 billion yuan ($44.4 billion). Nonetheless, its import and export volume with countries alongside the Belt and Road increased by 0.7 percent to 108.37 billion yuan ($15.7 billion). 

The city's overall road mileage reached 1,505.5 kilometers (935.5 miles). Of note, the mileage of expressways increased by 15.3 percent to 223.73 km (139.02 miles).

As of September 2022, Zhuhai has 688 schools (including kindergartens), increasing by 27 from the previous year. The number of citywide medical service institutes was 1,092 as of the end of 2022, providing 12,431 patient beds.

The number of registered patents in Zhuhai in 2022 increased by 2.1 percent and sat at 27,764, of which 26,093 were from 2,860 local enterprises. The number of invention patents in strategic emerging industries reached 22,380, accounting for 75.1 percent of the city's total. The ownership of invention patents in the city reached 120.81 per 10,000 persons.  

Zhuhai's permanent resident population as of 2022 was 2,477,200, with 2,248,300 people residing in urban areas. 

The per capita disposable income of all residents went up by 2.6 percent to 62,976 yuan ($9,157) and the city's annual consumer prices grew by 1.2 percent.
