Guizhou's site listed among China's top 10 archaeological discoveries

The National Cultural Heritage Administration unveiled the top 10 archaeological discoveries of 2022 on March 28, which included the Dasongshan tomb site in Southwest China's Guizhou province.

From July 2022 to January 2023, more than 4,000 relics or sets of relics were unearthed from 2,192 tombs at the Dasongshan tomb site in Guian New Area's Machang town.

The tombs were buried between the Western Jin Dynasty (265-316) and the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), making Dasongshan tomb site the largest and oldest excavated site in Southwest China.

The unearthed relics, which include ceramics, metal, ornaments and organic materials, shed light on life, commerce, religion and funeral culture in the region and provide a reference for the study of ancient ethnic groups in Southwest China.

So far, Guizhou's archaeological achievements have been listed among the national top 10 for eight times, namely the Zhaoguodong cave site in Guian New Area in 2020, Niupodong cave site in Guian New Area in 2016, Yang's chieftain tomb site of Bozhou regime in Zunyi in 2014, Hailongtun Fortress Site in Zunyi in 2012, Zhongshui ancient site in Bijie in 2005, Kele site in Bijie in 2001, and Panxian cave site of the Old Stone Age in Liupanshui in 1993.
