Wuxi aims to become transport hub

Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province will invest 22 billion yuan ($3.22 billion) on transportation development this year, local media reported on Feb 13.

The city will promote the development of international air freight at the Sunan Shuofang International Airport, speed up the construction of a river-sea combined transportation hub at Wuxi (Jiangyin) Port, and dispatch the first China-Europe train this year as soon as possible.

Wuxi will also accelerate the construction of the Jiangyin-Jiangjiang Yangtze River tunnel and finish the rebuilding and expansion of the No 312 national highway and the Huishan section of the No 261 provincial highway. In addition, it will promote the construction of the Suzhou-Wuxi Taihu Lake road, freight bypass, and Jintan-Yixing highway.

The intercity railway along the southern part of the Yangtze River will be completed as well, and construction of the Yancheng-Taizhou-Wuxi-Changzhou-Yixing railway and preparations for construction on the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou intercity railway will commence.

Wuxi will also upgrade terminals at the Wuxi (Jiangyin) Port and main shipping routes and promote the eco-friendly transformation of the Wuxi section of the Grand Canal.

In addition, it will accelerate the rebuilding and expansion of the Shuofang airport and the building of oil depots at the airport. Preparations for the expansion of the Dingshu General Airport will also begin.

Furthermore, Wuxi will rebuild 56 kilometer of roads and 12 bridges in rural areas and build 80 km of beautiful rural roads. The city will also encourage the use of new energy vehicles for road transport, urban logistics, and the public transportation industry.
