Changchun, Jilin selected in top 100 innovation cities list

The cities of Changchun and Jilin – both located in Northeast China's Jilin province – ranked 23rd and 90th on the list of the top 100 innovation cities in China, released by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China.

The results of the national innovation city innovation capability evaluation showed that the top 10 cities were, from the top down: Shenzhen, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Xi'an, Suzhou, Changsha, Hefei and Qingdao.

By the end of 2022, the Ministry of Science and Technology had supported a total of 103 cities (districts) in developing as national innovative cities.

These 103 cities have 51 percent of the country's total population, but they have attracted 85 percent of the country's R&D funding and 72 percent of the local financial technology investment.

The cities aim to be home to 85 percent of the country's high-tech enterprises and generate 81 percent of the country's high-tech enterprise revenue – contributing 67 percent of the country's GDP.

The report also released a list of the top 100 cities in China with innovative capabilities. The results showed that Beijing and Shanghai were firmly at the top of the list. Changchun city in Jilin Province was on the list, ranking 27th.
