Maoming promotes high-quality water conservancy development

Maoming plans to devote between 5 billion yuan ($734 million) to 7 billion yuan to water conservancy investment this year to bolster the high-quality development of its water conservancy efforts.

It will strive to implement the clean rivers and lakes system by 2025. Since 2023, about 15 percent of Maoming's rivers and lakes are expected to take the lead in the city's efforts to build a demonstration clean rivers and lakes area.

Maoming will promote the ecological protection of the Aihua River, as well as the planning and construction of a new high-speed railway area.

It will also complete the inspection of pilot counties and towns for the standardization of a flood and drought disaster prevention system by the end of February, as well as complete the standardization of the whole city's flood and drought disaster prevention system by the end of November.

The Gaoshanlan River's dam project is scheduled to start construction in March and be completed this year.

In 2023, Maoming will carry out a comprehensive management project of the Xiaodong River basin, as well as complete overall planning in combination with small and medium-sized river management projects to improve the flood control standards of key river channels.

It will reinforce 20 small dangerous reservoirs.

It will also implement the Maonan district water system connectivity and Shuimei village construction pilot county project, with 50 percent of the construction task completed by 2023 and a projected completion date in 2024.

The city will start the second phase of the modernization of the Gaozhou Reservoir.

By the end of 2023, Maoming will build a smart rural water supply platform and monitoring center, as well as realize the goal of providing smart services to more than 90 percent of its population.

It will build the Gaozhou Reservoir photovoltaic power project, with a maximum capacity to install 70 megawatts of photovoltaic power stations, generating about 73.5 million kilowatts per hour per year.
