Strawberry farming offers Gannan boost in economy

Winter is the harvest season for strawberry. Residents in Xiahe county, Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture, Gansu province are looking to enjoy some fruit-picking fun as they pay a visit to strawberry greenhouses in Huerkajia Village.

Growers are busy sorting out ripe fruits. The ground is covered with green vines, and red fruits are seen right under the green leaves.

Greenhouses, located about seven kilometers east of downtown of the county, cover more than 28,667 square meters. Currently, over 5,333 hectares of strawberry crops are cultivated in the village.

Strawberry seedlings need to be carefully managed and maintained in August, and the fruit-picking period is as long as half a year. The main varieties planted this year are Zhangji strawberries and Hongyan strawberries.
