The Hainan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology recently announced that the 2022 World New Energy Vehicle Congress (WNEVC) will be held in Beijing and Hainan from from Aug 25 to 28, utilizing a combination of online and onsite methods.

The event will include more than 20 conferences, 13,000 square meters of technology exhibitions, and several concurrent events. More than 200 senior government officials, representative from international organizations, global business leaders, academicians, and industry experts will attend and deliver speeches.

Over the past four years, Hainan has attracted extensive attention for the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port, especially from leading enterprises in the automobile industry. It has also deepened international and domestic cooperation in the NEV field.

On March 6, 2019, Hainan announced a plan to progressively shift to all clean energy vehicles by 2030. The implementation plan for carbon peaking issued by the provincial government recently again clarified that by 2030, the sales of fuel vehicles will be banned across the entire island.

Since 2019, the province has promoted and applied more than 160,000 NEVs. Since 2016, the growth rate of Hainan's NEVs has been the first in the country, which can reduce carbon emissions by about 400,000 metric tons per year. As of the end of June, the proportion of Hainan's NEVs ownership was 8.91 percent of the total vehicle ownership, ranking second among China's provincial-level regions.

Hainan will take the WNEVC as an important platform to deepen international and domestic cooperation, as well as speed up the promotion of NEVs.
