An additional 34 people have been confirmed infected with COVID-19 in Chengdu, Sichuan province.

As of Sunday at noon, the city had reported 86 confirmed patients and 33 asymptomatic cases since the latest outbreak started on Thursday, the Information Office of the municipal government said at a news conference.

Infections are rising rapidly in Chengdu. Since the social activities of the people confirmed and asymptomatic are extensive, involving public places in many districts, cities and counties of Chengdu, the risk of the virus spreading is high.

Chengdu has designated 33 high-risk areas and 32 medium risk areas, the authorities said.

Yang Xiaoguang, director of the Chengdu Municipal Health Commission, said that starting on Monday, people entering public places — entertainment venues, tourist attractions, sports and fitness venues, commercial buildings, large supermarkets, education and training institutions — in the city must provide negative results of a COVID-19 test within 48 hours.
