A special exhibition highlighting maritime civilizations and ancient Greek art kicked off at the Shanghai Museum in Huangpu district in East China's Shanghai on July 19.
The exhibition, jointly sponsored by the Shanghai Museum and the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports, is an important part of the China-Greece Year of Culture and Tourism, which kicked off in Athens in September last year, and more than 30 pieces of precious artworks from Greece are on display at the three-month-long event.
The exhibition consists of two sections, which are "Ocean in Ancient Greek Art" and "Ocean in Modern and Contemporary Greek Art". A total of five ancient Greek cultural relics and 34 pieces of modern and contemporary Greek works of art are being displayed.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ancient Greek relics were unable to be physically present at the exhibition site. The organizers are applying technologies such as virtual reality and holographic projections to ensure that visitors can enjoy an immersive experience that allows them to fully appreciate the historical stories behind each cultural relic.
The Shanghai Museum held a special exhibition "Elegance and Carnival: Treasures from the Acropolis Museum" in 2018, showcasing two cultural relics from the Acropolis Museum in Athens, and two pieces of the Shanghai Museum's collection were also exhibited at the Acropolis Museum the same year, which were favored by local residents.
Exhibition time: July 19 to Oct 9 (Closed on Mondays, except for national holidays)
