The story is set in a small courtyard house in Beijing named Wotou Guild Hall in 1948, where families struggling at the bottom of society dwell. These residents, who have many kinds of bonds, have to struggle with hardships including poverty, harsh duties and fraud. However, their inner kindness never vanishes in tough times.
