6. The Xiaojing Alley

Premiered in 1985
The play describes the changes in the lives of the residents of a small alley in southern Beijing from the 1950s to the 1970s. It criticizes all kinds of absurdities in the social changes and expresses sincere sympathy for the ordinary people. The life scenes and characters are depicted vividly with simple lines, providing a great image of the folk style of Beijing during that period of time.
Shedding lights on several major historical events, the work also offers a glimpse of the extraordinary course of development of the new China.
