According to local media, three attractions in East China's Fujian province – "blue tears" in Pingtan, the sea of clouds at Jiuxian mountain in Quanzhou, and sunrise and sunset over the sea in Xiapu county – were recently included in the first batch of weather spectacles and climate landscapes released by China Meteorological Service Association.

The initial batch featured 15 such weather spectacles and climate landscapes that were either extremely typical, highly representative and watchable and having become a core local tourist attraction, or extremely rare.

The most common cause of "blue tears" in Pingtan is noctiluca scintillans, which create a light blue glow at night when activated by tides or wave lapping. [Photo/fjsen.com]
