Canadian John Carmichael, currently chief technology officer or CTO of Orca Data Technology (Xi'an) Co, is one of the founders of Veritas Software, the third largest software company in the world.
"Xi'an provides foreign experts with a very good working and living environment," Carmichael said.
In 2018, Carmichael joined his current company as CTO, making him responsible for the research and development of underlying high-performance storage technology.
Under his leadership, the company has recruited over 40 top-flight people from some of the world's top 500 companies. The company's R&D extends to all-flash storage systems, data platforms and other fields. With storage as its cornerstone, the group develops technologies such as the smart internet of things, security controls and big data analysis.
"Years of work experience tell me that creativity comes from young people. From my point of view, few cities in China can match Xi'an. Xi'an has many colleges and universities and has rich scientific and educational resources," Carmichael said.
As a result, aside from paying attention to high-end tech experts, Carmichael also focuses his mind on major universities in Shaanxi province. Orca Data has built training facilities and storage research and development centers with the universities there, in the process making a lot of scientific research achievements.
At the 2021 selection of the most attractive Chinese cities for international professionals, Carmichael said Xi'an had provided outstanding research and development funds for foreign talent and the testing environment and equipment there was superb to boot.
He also said that Xi'an prioritized the protection of scientific and technological achievements and intellectual property rights, providing more opportunities for people to transform and promote their sci-tech research achievements.
