General Introduction to the Economy of Zhangjiakou

With the approval of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, China's National Olympic Committee endorsed the proposal made by Beijing and Zhangjiakou to jointly bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in November 2013. Zhangjiakou immediately grabbed the attention of the world when the International Olympic Committee confirmed the success of that application in July 2015.

Zhangjiakou borders Beijing, Shanxi province and the Inner Mongolia autonomous region. It is about 180 kilometers from Beijing and about 317 kilometers from Tianjin Port. It is at the intersection of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (Baohai Sea Region) Economic Circle and the Hebei-Shanxi-Inner Mongolia (the Great Wall Region) Economic Circle.

The highway and railway mileages of Zhangjiakou reach 1,298 and 1,000 kilometers respectively. The Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Rail has shortened the travel time between the two cities to one hour. The airport of Zhangjiakou, which is designed to meet the demands of civilian and military planes, has been put in operation.
