BUCT launches 2+2 Double-Degree Joint Undergraduate Program with Thailand's KMITL

The opening ceremony of the BUCT–KMIT 2+2 Double-Degree Joint Undergraduate Program is held via video link on Sept 22.

The Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) has launched the 2+2 Double-Degree Joint Undergraduate Program with King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), which is located in Bangkok, capital of Thailand. They welcomed the first group of students at the opening ceremony online on Sept 22.

As a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, BUCT has been adhering to the concept of cultivating international innovative talents and serving cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.

The program jointly set up by BUCT, KMITL and Shandong Linglong Tire Co., Ltd., combining the disciplinary characteristics and advantages of the two universities with the needs of enterprises, aims to cultivate innovative and compound international talents needed by the development of the materials industries of both countries, continuously promote friendship between the two countries and make contributions to further promote connectivity between the people of both countries.

KMITL said that BUCT is a famous and competitive Chinese university with high reputation in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering and material science, which is highly compatible with the discipline orientation of KMITL.

The two universities said that the program would be a significant milestone in deepening their cooperation. Both sides said they believe that the program will provide new development opportunities and a good learning environment for each student and help them gain knowledge and skills in utilizing the rich research resources of the two universities.

Since enterprises continue to grow, there is an urgent need for professionals in materials science and engineering, especially in the fields of polymer materials and engineering. As the enterprise side, Shandong Linglong Tire Co., Ltd. said it hopes that students from the program will witness the friendship between China and Thailand, and has also welcomed students to visit the company's headquarters in Yantai, East China's Shandong province, Thailand and other production bases for exchange and learning.

The program is supported by the China Center for People-to-People Exchange, the Ministry of Education and the Sino-Foreign Cultural Exchange Research Institute of Major Chemical Industry. It is a new breakthrough in joint training for international talents in BUCT. The successful implementation of the program will be of great significance for both universities in promoting the development of internationalization and international cooperation in production capacity, in serving the Belt and Road Initiative and cultural exchanges between China and Thailand.

China and Thailand have carried out cultural exchanges and interactions adhering to openness and inclusiveness. Moreover, bilateral cooperation in the field of education has been increasingly frequent in recent years.

Wang Feng, vice-president of BUCT, Anuwat Jangwanitlert, provost of KMITL, Sun Songtao, vice-president of Shandong Linglong Tire Co., Ltd. attended the ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Liu Guangqing, dean of BUCT’s School of International Education.
