Guiyang athletes attend Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games

Two athletes from Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province are competing in women's badminton events at Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, which are being held from Aug 24 to Sept 5, according to local media reports.

Cheng Hefang will participate in the badminton women's singles SL4 and the women's doubles SL3-SU5 competitions, and Yang Qiuxia will participate in badminton women's singles SU5 competition.

Cheng Hefang was born in 1995. Due to congenital dislocation of her hip joint, her left leg muscle has atrophied.

In 2008, Cheng was selected for the Guizhou Provincial Badminton Team for Persons with Disabilities. In 2013, she was selected for the Chinese Badminton Team for Persons with Disabilities.

She has participated in many badminton competitions at home and abroad and achieved excellent results.

Yang Qiuxia, born in 1998, was bitten by a poisonous snake on the back of her hand when she was young, and her arm was amputated due to delayed treatment.

In 2013, Yang participated in the National Para-Badminton Championships for the first time, achieving second place in women's singles and first in women's doubles.

In the same year, she was selected for the Chinese Badminton Team for Persons with Disabilities.
