Fujian's foreign trade surges 38 percent in Jan-July period

According to Fuzhou Customs, Fujian province's imports and exports totaled 10.25 trillion yuan ($1.58 trillion), up 38 percent year-on-year, from January to July, showing steady growth.

During the first seven months, the province's exports hit 597.04 billion yuan, an increase of 35.3 percent year-on-year, while imports reached 37.51 billion yuan, a 42.1 percent year-on-year rise.

In July alone, the province's imports and exports soared 32.6 percent to 164.81 billion yuan, reaching a record high.

Xiamen, Fuzhou, and Quanzhou topped cities in Fujian province in the Jan-July period, with imports and exports reaching 489.67 billion yuan, 185.21 billion yuan, and 147 billion yuan, respectively.

Private enterprises in the province continued to be the largest foreign trade entity, with imports and exports valued at 549.36 billion yuan, up 52.8 percent from January to July.

During the same time period, the imports and exports of foreign-invested enterprises and State-owned enterprises grew 18.1 percent and 32.6 percent to 251.73 billion yuan and 223.07 billion yuan, respectively.

Statistics showed that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the United States, and the European Union are the province's top three trading partners, accounting for 42.9 percent of the province's total foreign trade in the January-July period.

The province mainly exported mechanical and electrical products and labor-intensive products, which accounted for 36.9 percent and 33.1 percent of the province's total exports in the first seven months, respectively.

The recovery of industrial production brought growing imports of mechanical and electrical products and energy resources such as iron ore, copper ore, crude oil, and steel, importing 65.67 million tons, 1.89 million tons, 9.11 million tons, and 1.62 million tons, respectively.
