Guangdong province, known for its culinary style both at home and abroad, is sparing no effort to train chefs to boost Cantonese cuisine.

Colleges and cooking schools are being urged to further expand cooperation with local companies and restaurants to achieve the goal in the months to come, the Guangdong Department of Education said in a statement on Friday.

In addition to stabilizing the job market, chefs of Cantonese cuisine are expected to play a role in promoting Cantonese dishes and the culture of South China around the world.

A number of colleges and professional schools were listed as new training bases for Cantonese cuisine after a grand ceremony was held during a promotional conference, the statement said.

More than 200 government officials, company executives and senior chefs from Guangdong province and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions participated the conference to exchange views on the development of Cantonese cuisine and the job market associated with it.

The event was organized by the Guangdong Department of Education in Foshan's Shunde district on Friday.

Located in the Pearl River Delta, Shunde district is home to myriad chefs of Cantonese cuisine who are now working in hotels and restaurants around the world.

Most of the restaurants with Cantonese cuisine as their primary attraction are enjoying brisk global business.
