Lushan Mountain Museum is based in the former office and residence of Mao Zedong (1893-1976) at Lushan Mountain, a UNESCO world cultural heritage site in East China's Jiangxi province. Located on the banks of the scenic Lulin Lake, the museum enjoys a pleasant natural environment. You shouldn't miss it during your trip to Lushan Mountain.

The museum is a cultural facility focused on local history, natural history and art. Its most celebrated collections, according to its official website, include traditional paintings and calligraphy dating from between the 14th and early 20th centuries, plus porcelain from the first half of the 20th century.

Permanent exhibitions and displays are available at a cluster of villa-turned galleries, including those themed on the culture of cliff inscriptions by the literati and celebrities of Lushan Mountain throughout history, a precious set of 112 18th-century painting scrolls depicting Arhats, and the Lushan world geopark. The office and bedroom of Mao Zedong is also open to the public, with its original interior decor and furniture restored.

When the Qing government signed the Treaty of Tianjin with Great Britain in 1858, Jiujiang opened to foreign trade as a port city. Less than forty years later, Lushan Mountain had become a summer resort for Western missionaries. A gallery is dedicated to displaying photographs taken from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries, tracking the history of the mountain over that period.
