The history of Jiujiang Museum can be traced back to 1978. Now, it has grown into the largest museum in Jiangxi province, and boasts a collection of over 10,000 items.

The museum's principal permanent exhibition illustrates the history and civilization of Jiujiang. It is a city you may never heard of, but it is where the Yangtze River flows, the Boyang Lake lies, and the Lushan Mountains stand. In the large gallery covering 2,400 square meters, the story of Jiujiang is presented to visitors following a chronicle sequence, from the Neolithic era to the modern day, with highlighted topics including its ever-abundant copper resources, the Confucian Bailudong Academy, and the origin of the Buddhist Pure Land (or Jingtu) Sect. In 2013, the exhibition won a "China's Ten Best Museum Exhibitions" award.
