Ports maintain steady growth in Hebei province

The productivity of ports in North China's Hebei province has maintained a good growth momentum, according to the Hebei Provincial Port and Shipping Development Center.

In the first two months of the year, their cargo throughput topped 200 million metric tons, reaching 200.88 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 17.1 percent.

Of that, the ports handled 598,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEUs) of containers in January and February, a year-on-year increase of 55 percent.

The cargo throughput and container throughput of Qinhuangdao Port was 34.94 million tons and 97,000 TEUs in the period, a year-on-year increase of 12.7 percent and 13.1 percent, respectively.

Tangshan Port completed a cargo throughput of 114.61 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 19.1 percent -- seeing a year-on-year increase of 81.9 percent in container throughput to 414,000 TEUs.

In addition, the province's waterway transportation completed cargo volume of 7.48 million tons -- a year-on-year increase of 10.8 percent -- while the volume of cargo turnover reached 12.22 billion ton-kilometers, an increase of 30.3 percent.
