Guangxi will build three transport airports and 20 utility airports by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), officials from the Transport Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region revealed on March 16.

The three transport airports will be built in Hezhou, Fangchenggang and Guigang, increasing the total number of Guangxi's transport airports to 11, while the 20 new utility airports are expected to help Guangxi's air passenger throughput exceed 40 million people.

The construction of the Nanning Wuxu International Airport expansion project will be pushed forward and is scheduled to finish before 2021.

The renovation and expansion of Guilin Liangjiang International Airport is set to begin during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, turning the airport into the second airport in the region with a passenger throughput of 10 million.

Feeder airports in cities such as Wuzhou, Baise, Hechi and Yulin will gain general aviation support from the autonomous region, and the construction of utility airports in areas such as Guilin's Gongcheng, Wuzhou's Cenxi and Baise's Leye will be sped up, with the aim being that they will be put into operation by 2025.

Guangxi will fully support Nanning Wuxu International Airport's vision to become the gateway aviation hub for ASEAN, a regional international aviation center in the Beibu Gulf and one of the country's international hub airports.

It is expected that the air passenger throughput of Guangxi will reach more than 40 million people by 2025, while the figure for Nanning Wuxu International Airport and Guilin Liangjiang International Airport will be 25 million and 10 million each.
