Rescue efforts underway for 4 miners trapped in SW China's Guizhou

Rescue efforts are underway to save four miners trapped in a mine in Southwest China's Guizhou province after carbon monoxide emissions exceeded the standard level on Tuesday morning, China Central Television reported.

Emissions of carbon monoxide rose higher than the standard level at the Ruifeng Coal Mine in Dafang county of Bijie at about 7:20 am on Tuesday, leaving four miners trapped, CCTV said. Officials have lost contact with them.

A total of 47 miners were working underground when the accident occurred; 43 escaped to return above ground safely.

Rescue teams have arrived at the site and rescue work is underway.
