The potential for cooperation between Malaysia and China is huge and will see a promising future, said Azlimi Zakaria, consul general of Malaysia in Naning, during the appreciation dinner held by the consulate general of Malaysia in Nanning on Dec 21.

Zakaria highly praised Guangxi as an important link in the cooperation between Malaysia and China for creating an excellent business environment for foreign investment.

He noted that the success of the recent 17th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) was a demonstration of the close connection between ASEAN and Guangxi that also showcased that the unity between ASEAN and China can overcome all kinds of challenges.

"I am very pleased to witness the presence of Malaysia here has been made more evident over the years," said the consul general. "Although unlike in 2019, where we had visits from several of our ministers, the year 2020 has seen a decrease on the exchange of visits due to the necessary safety precautions taken. Nonetheless, we are confident that this will be reinvigorated in just a matter of time."

Zhou Hongbo, vice chairman of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, said that Guangxi has been devoting great attention to friendly cooperation with Malaysia and that both sides have achieved remarkable outcomes in exchanges and cooperation in areas spanning economic and trade, industry, as well as culture.

Guangxi and Malaysia have helped each other since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The import and export volume between Malaysia and Guangxi reached $7.06 billion in the first 11 months of this year.

Zhou added that Guangxi is willing to further contribute to bringing the cooperation between China and Malaysia to new heights in the future.
