As a comprehensive and high-profile university museum, it has a venue in each of the university’s three campuses in Beijing and two other branches in Yan’an, Shaanxi province and Zhengding county, Hebei province.

The museum collection is made up of cultural relics, artworks, and objects recording the university’s history. With about 90,000 antiques and a floor space of 5,000 square meters, the museum consists of the University History Exhibition Hall, a themed exhibition hall and a temporary exhibition hall.

The exhibition of the university’s history displays RUC’s development since 1937 from Shanbei Public School. The permanent exhibitions involve antiques found in North China, Chinese family letters, ancient official documents, materials on the evolution of stock in China and the works of famous calligrapher Shen Peng, while the temporary ones include a letter exhibition that displays the letters of celebrities who made great contribution to modernization in Chinese history, the swaddling clothes of ethnic minorities in Southwest China, and an exhibition about famous educator Wu Yuzhang (1878-1966).

The museum seeks cooperation with various parties to roll out temporary high-quality exhibitions. It also expands its collection and enhances the management and research of its relics, hoping to fully utilize the exhibits and make more research achievements.

The museum built three volunteer teams consisting of students and a group of retired employees to offer guide services to the public. Thanks to the training programs, the volunteer guides also provide bilingual services. It receives more than 20,000 visitors every year and has become a cultural hub on the campus and for local communities.

The museum serves as an important practice base for freshmen and a resource for postgraduate education at the university. It is working with related schools and exploring application of its collection to teaching, research and personnel training. The museum is committed to becoming a first-class institution renowned for its cultural relics among domestic universities and to serving teaching, research and discipline construction. It plays a key role in reforming the university’s talent cultivation and promoting campus cultural life and international exchanges.
