Volvo to open logistics center in Suzhou

Swedish carmaker Volvo, owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, unveiled its East China logistics center in Taicang port, Suzhou, Jiangsu province on Sept 1.

Zhong Xiaoming, logistics director of Volvo Car Asia Pacific, said in an interview that the new logistics center will contribute to an additional annual cargo throughput of 40,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), making Taicang port a national base for the import and distribution of automobile parts.

He said that the Taicang logistics center is expected to be Volvo's largest.

According to the administrative committee of Taicang Port, the port will use this as an opportunity to improve services for similar projects and turn automobile parts and car logistics into one of its main industries.

Taicang Port is located on the south bank of the Yangtze River estuary and is known for transporting containers in northern Shanghai.

The port is working to improve its business environment by developing its logistics system and taking advantage of its location.

To overcome the impact of COVID-19, Taicang Port is encouraging goods from southern Jiangsu to be shipped by water. The "Taishen Express", which travels from Taicang Port to Shanghai Waigaoqiao and Huangpu River, has opened and is providing convenient and low-cost shipping services.

Despite the adverse impact of the pandemic, Taicang Port has attracted 38 logistics companies and generated around 5 billion yuan ($732 million) in trade in 2020.
