Deals worth $1m signed at poverty alleviation livestreaming

More than 35,000 orders with total sales of 6.96 million yuan ($1 million) were reached at a livestreaming event held on Aug 15 to promote sales of local products from Wuchuan county in Hohhot, the capital city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

The livestreaming, jointly hosted by China General Technology Group and the news center of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, was the first of its type held in Inner Mongolia to help regional poverty alleviation by promoting local specialty sales.

The two-hour livestreaming was watched by around 10.74 million viewers and gained 119 million likes.

Wuchuan county is a designated poverty alleviation county of China General Technology Group. 

Since 2002, China General Technology Group has provided key assistance to Wuchuan county in industrial poverty alleviation, education poverty alleviation and social security poverty alleviation. 

Over the past 18 years, 7,809 poor households in the county have benefited from the group’s efforts.

Local officials explained that Wuchuan county has a weak industrial foundation, but a good reputation for its agricultural and livestock products such as mushrooms, potatoes, astragalus and oatmeal.

Livestreaming is expected to help improve the popularity and reputation of Wuchuan’s products.
