The number of daily cured and discharged COVID-19 patients has exceeded the number of newly reported infections for two consecutive days in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

The region reported 40 locally transmitted infections on Friday and Saturday, while 58 people were discharged in the past two days, all in the region's capital, Urumqi.

As the number of the discharged grows and the daily confirmed cases declines, the gap between two figures has expanded, and that indicates the effect of medical treatment is obvious, Shang Yulan, deputy secretary-general of the city government, said during a virus control and prevention conference on Sunday.

Shang said the number of confirmed cases receiving treatment and asymptomatic carriers under medical observation continued to decline recently.

No new asymptomatic infections were reported in Urumqi on Saturday, and the confirmed cases in the past two days were found in those already under medical observation.

As of Saturday, the total number of confirmed infections was 622 and there were currently 122 asymptomatic carriers in the city.
