Shanxi Supercomputing Center established in Lyuliang

The Shanxi Supercomputing Center was unveiled in Lyuliang city in North China's Shanxi province on July 31, according to local officials.

The center is a national and regional strategic information infrastructure and a strategic platform for technological innovation. It supports research and engineering projects in fields of new medicines and development, weather forecasting, fluid designs, resource exploration, manned spaceflight, artificial intelligence and blockchain.

Officials said Lyuliang city in recent years has adopted the development of the big data industry as an important way to promote its economic transformation and high-quality development.

Since 2017, the city has held annual big data industrial development promotion meetings, established the Lyuliang big data applications bureau and founded talent support systems and innovative development platforms related to the big data sector.

A number of big data projects and big data applications companies -- including the Tianhe No 2 Cloud Computing Center and the Huawei Shanxi (Lyuliang) Big Data Center -- have been operating in the city, which has greatly boosted local socioeconomic development.

Officials said the Shanxi Supercomputing Center represented another move by the city to advance construction of new infrastructure construction and boost its industrial transformation.

Moving forwards, Lyuliang plans to expand its cooperation with universities and scientific research institutions.

It will promote existing big data projects and big data enterprise upgrading, work on improving the performance of the supercomputing center and strengthen the city's big data sector, to develop itself into China's big data valley.
