Taicang foreign trade stabilizes, imports up 9.4% in June

Taicang, Jiangsu province announced a total import and export value of 41.41 billion yuan ($5.95 billion) in the first half of 2020, according to data from Taicang Customs, local media reported on Aug 4.

In June, imports were valued at 4.02 billion yuan, up 9.4 percent year on year, indicating a strong rebound.

In the first half, Taicang's imports were valued at 19.36 billion yuan and exports were valued at 22.05 billion yuan. Imports and exports between Taicang and ASEAN countries were valued at 10.14 billion yuan, up 0.1 percent amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Private enterprises took full advantage of the municipal government's supporting customs clearance policies and contributed 12.36 billion yuan in imports and exports, accounting for 29.9 percent of the city's total.

Hi-tech enterprises in Taicang received strong support from the government when attempting to resume operations and contributed 1.08 billion yuan in exports, up 12.4 percent year on year.

The Taicang Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone saw 52,700 tons in cargo throughput valued at $301 million, up 67.8 percent and 16.8 percent, respectively. Taicang Xingang Logistics Center Co, in particular, saw explosive growth in imports and exports, with a value 44.6 times that during the same period in 2019.
