Guangxi places great emphasis on food safety

The Market Supervision Bureau of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region held a press conference on food safety on July 17, introducing Guangxi's efforts on food safety from January to June this year.

Guangxi has promoted food producers and operators to resume work and production, as well as implemented food safety supervision measures to prevent and resolve major risks. The resumption rate of food production enterprises above designated size in the region reached 97.24 percent, while the overall qualification rate of food being sampled was 97.98 percent.

In order to block the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in food circulation channels, Guangxi completely banned the illegal trade of wild animals, carried out comprehensive cleaning and food safety inspections of food production and business premises, as well as guided the opening of online food delivery and contactless delivery services. A total of 922,200 key places, such as farmers' markets, supermarkets, and catering units, were checked, while 42,900 e-commerce platforms, websites, and online shops were monitored.

The Guangxi Market Supervision Bureau has also accepted complaints and reports of infringement of consumers' rights and interests from live streaming in a timely manner, as well as vigorously investigated and punished violations of laws and regulations.

Focusing on pressing issues like agricultural and veterinary drug residues, excessive heavy metals, illegal additions, as well as excessive microbes, Guangxi has established a multi-departmental emergency response mechanism to carry out hidden danger investigations and special rectifications, especially in the key areas of campuses, rural areas, and tourist attractions.

In the future, Guangxi will implement smart supervision mechanisms, develop an electronic supervision system for food production and operation, as well as carry out food safety sampling monitoring and analysis to achieve accurate risk analysis and management based on big data.
