In the first half of this year, North China's Hebei province continued to vigorously expand the rollout of its 5G network, installing 9,440 base stations -- completing 63 percent of the annual construction target -- according to officials at the Hebei Communications Administration.

They said that since the start of the year, the administration has made every effort to overcome the negative impact of the novel coronavirus epidemic.

It actively organized the resumption of production of various telecommunications companies in the province to promote the construction of 5G network.

Officials said China Telecom and China Unicom in Hebei have launched a joint construction and sharing mechanism to promote the intensive construction of 5G base stations.

Under this year's plan, the two parties will complete 5G network coverage in urban areas and important counties in the province.

At present, 5G network has been applied in the fields of education, medical care, ports and mining in Hebei.

In the second half of the year, the province will continue to focus on further network construction.

By the end of the year, at least 15,000 new 5G base stations will be built, officials said, effectively promoting Hebei’s high-quality economic and social development.
