Baotou, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has allocated 67 million yuan ($9.51 million) in subsidies for college and university graduates -- including housing subsidies of 61.58 million yuan and living subsidies of 54.31 million yuan -- since the city introduced an initiative on college graduate recruitment, according to a recent report in the Baotou Daily.

Officials said it has successfully attracted 2,487 top people to come and work for companies and institutions in the city, including 96 with a doctorate, 1,294 with a master’s degree and 1,068 graduates from top domestic colleges and universities.

They said Baotou has focused on recruiting top-grade professionals -- issuing policies and initiatives to help with the employment of college graduates.

In August 2016, the municipal government introduced an initiative, aimed at recruiting 200,000 college graduates by 2020. In addition, a public service center featuring consultations on recruitment formalities was set up in the same month.

To boost innovation an entrepreneurship, the city has launched a start-up loan guarantee center targeting college graduates.

It recommends college graduates who are qualified, enabling them to start their own businesses in the financial sector -- and offers services to applicants, free of charge.
