Northeast China's Jilin province launched 538 major projects at a ceremony on April 15 – adding to those that returned work since March and taking the active number of major projects in the province to 1,349, according to local officials.

The projects – 122 more than the same period last year – have attracted a total investment of 991.1 billion yuan ($140.44 billion), officials added.

Over half of the major projects involve the manufacturing industry.

A new energy vehicle factory project for automaker FAW-Hongqi, with a total investment of 7.8 billion yuan, will produce up to 200,000 new energy vehicles and intelligent vehicles annually when put into operation in 2022, with an output value of around 60 billion yuan.

Officials said Jilin is actively taking measures to reduce the impact of the novel coronavirus epidemic on implementing projects. By contacting investors on the phone, getting online approval and using online investment promotions, all the winter projects had resumed work by the end of February.

To promote the construction of the projects, Jilin set up 86 project centers at the provincial, municipal and county levels to track their progress and solve problems.

Jilin has also started a new infrastructure construction plan to implement 2,188 major projects this year.

These will involve 5G infrastructure, extra-high voltages, intercity high-speed railways and rail transit, charging piles for new energy vehicles, big data centers, artificial intelligence and the industrial internet.
