Imported cases of coronavirus falling in Guangdong, deputy governor says

The number of coronavirus infection cases among inbound overseas travelers has continued to drop in Guangdong in the past two weeks and the risk associated with such cases is under control, said a deputy governor of the province.

Among those cases, the ones which led to local infection cases all entered Guangdong before March 21, said Deputy Governor Lin Keqing at a press conference in Guangzhou on Sunday. On March 21, stricter measures took effect.

People who entered the country through the checkpoints in Guangdong before March 21 have all been put under health management, Lin said, adding the risk associated with imported cases is under control.

The grave and complex global epidemic situation is increasing pressure on the province's efforts to curb imported cases.

The provincial authorities have highlighted equal service and management to all living in the province in epidemic control, oppose any differentiated practice targeting specific groups of people and have zero tolerance for discriminative words and actions.

All foreigners in Guangdong should strictly abide by related laws and regulation related to epidemic control, Lin said.

By Saturday, Guangdong had reported 183 imported cases, including 145 Chinese nationals, and 44 asymptomatic carriers related to imported cases, said Deng Huihong, director of the provincial center for disease control and prevention.

More than 7.26 million foreigners entered China through checkpoints in Guangdong and over 7.36 million foreigners left the country through the checkpoints in the province last year. About 117,000 foreigners live in the Guangdong, said Yang Rihua, deputy director of the provincial public security department.
