Authorities in Guangzhou, the capital of South China's Guangdong province, have issued a series of supporting measures for people returning from Central China's Hubei province, hit hardest by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Families affected by the pandemic coming from Hubei to Guangzhou, with per capita income less than the city's minimum living standard of 1,080 yuan ($152.2), will be given one-off assistance of 4,000 yuan.

Those with family members infected with the disease will be given a relief fund of up to 20,000 yuan, according to Guangzhou government.

Guangzhou, a major destination for migrant workers, has more than 640,000 registered people from Hubei province.

There are about 245,000 people from Hubei who have already returned to Guangzhou after the Spring Festival holidays, which began on Jan 25.
